DIRECTOR OF HILLCREST KIDS

Reports to: Pastor of Youth & Children’s Ministries

Position: Full-Time, Salaried


Position Summary

The Director of Hillcrest Kids provides vision, leadership, and oversight for Hillcrest Kids (birth through 5th grade), partnering with parents and volunteers to help children develop a lifelong relationship with Jesus Christ.This leader creates engaging, safe, and welcoming environments where children experience the love of Jesus, discover God's story, build meaningful relationships, and learn what it means to follow Christ. The Director recruits, develops, and shepherds a thriving volunteer team while collaborating with church staff and leadership to advance the mission of Hillcrest Covenant Church.

Vision & Leadership

• Provide overall vision, direction, and leadership for Hillcrest Kids (Birth–5th Grade).

• Develop a comprehensive discipleship strategy for children and families.

• Evaluate and continually improve ministry effectiveness.

• Lead innovation while ensuring alignment with Hillcrest's mission and values.

Sunday & Weekly Ministries

• Oversee all Sunday morning children's programming.

• Select, plan, and implement curriculum.

• Ensure classrooms are engaging, safe, and developmentally appropriate.

• Teach regularly while equipping volunteers to teach effectively.

Volunteer Leadership

• Recruit, train, schedule, encourage, and retain volunteers.

• Develop volunteer leaders.

• Ensure compliance with Reducing the Risk policies and background checks.

Family Ministry

• Partner with parents in the spiritual formation of their children.

• Build meaningful relationships with children and families.

• Welcome and connect new families.

Events & Outreach

• Lead children's ministry involvement in Easter Egg Hunt, Hillcrest Kids Week, Hillcrest Fest, Trunk or Treat, family events, and additional outreach opportunities.

Administration

• Manage the annual ministry budget.

• Oversee Planning Center scheduling, attendance, registrations, and communication.

• Maintain ministry records and organized ministry spaces.

Staff Collaboration

• Participate in staff meetings and church-wide initiatives.

• Collaborate with the Pastor of Youth and Children’s Ministries 

• Perform other duties as assigned by Pastor of Youth and Children’s Ministries and/or the Lead Pastor.

Qualifications

• Growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

• Passion for children's discipleship.

• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

• Experience leading volunteer teams.

• Emotionally mature, teachable, collaborative, and trustworthy.

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent ministry experience preferred.

Accountability 

• Primary source of accountability is with the Pastor of Youth and Children’s Ministries

• Will meet regularly with the Mutual Ministries Team

• May be called upon to attend Leadership Team meetings periodically

• Attend weekly staff meetings

• Give ministry reports at congregational meetings

• Regular visibility with and communication to the broader congregation
